Prospective Students

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students attending our school must:

  1. Be 18 years of age.
  2. Have a High School Diploma or GED.
  3. Submit a minimum of two character references from Health Care Professionals by first day of class.
  4. Schedule personal on-site visit to be completed before registration.
  5. Complete a personal data form.
  6. Submit the required Enrollment Agreement and Registration Fee.
  7. Payment in full or signed installment of payment for tuition before or on first day of class.

STUDENT CONDUCT AND ETHICS

As a professional, ethics are standards of acceptable and professional behavior by which a person or business conducts business.  Good ethics provide guidelines for professional conduct.

  1. Always present a professional appearance.
  2. Project a pleasant and optimistic personality.
  3. Treat each individual with courtesy.
  4. Maintain a sense of dignity and professionalism in the classroom and your work.
  5. Maintain good health habits.
  6. Keep surroundings neat, clean, and attractive.
  7. Keep your private lives and your professional clinical lives separate by not discussing your personal problems with your clients.
  8. Language that is harmful to this profession is not to be tolerated.
  9. It is your responsibility as a professional massage therapist to conduct yourself in and out of the school in an ethical manner.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

To be licensed as a Massage Therapist in the state of TN, a person must:

  1. Be 18 years of age and have received a High School diploma or GED.
  2. Have completed a minimum of 500 hours of courses of supervised study at an approved school.
  3. Have received a passing grade on an approved examination. (Section 40-30-110, TN Code of Laws, 1976, as amended {The Massage/Bodywork Practice Act, Act 387 of the 1996 General Assembly}). Successfully pass the Massage and Bodyworks Licensing exam (MBLEx) established by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
  4. The passing rate for the National Board Test (MBLEx) required for licensure in the State of Tn is 70%.  The average range for ROHSOM has been 85%-93% over the last 10 years, whereas the average for the state massage schools average 70%-74% and the National average for Schools is about the same.

OBJECTIVES

With the conclusion of our 550-hour program, each student will be proficient in a Full Body / Swedish massage, will be exposed to a range of basic massage therapy applications, and will be supported towards achieving personal balance and well-being. Our goal is to provide each student an education that meets the requirements set forth by the Tennessee Board of Massage Therapy and National Board of Testing.

It is also our goal to provide the massage student a curriculum that is designed to educate in theory and practicum, classical techniques of massage along with advances in the field of therapeutic massage.  The education of the massage practitioner will cover a range of massage therapy applications in a proficient manner to allow a balance of well being for every individual seeking the service of therapeutic massage.

GRADUATION

Upon graduation you will receive a Diploma and a copy of the official transcript, outlining the curriculum you completed, when all obligations have been met. To meet the requirements, you will be required to take a national board examination for licensure. Upon completion of your national board then you will apply to the state board of massage for that licensure. Our program prepares you for this test and we have a very high percentage passing rate that can be verified at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

The State of Tennessee Board of Massage requires a minimum 500 hours of classroom-approved curriculum in order to apply for licensure.

When a student completes these hours and:

  1. Completes and maintains a passing average in all his/her graded subjects, and successfully complete an exit exam.
  2. Has a satisfactory grade in subjectively graded practical evaluations.
  3. All financial obligations have been fulfilled to the school.
  4. There are many states that you can apply for licensure/certification with the completion of this program and passing the MBLEx.
